Materials

Main Ingredients

  • 1 small cauliflower, cut into florets

Sauce Ingredients

  • 45 g butter
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 125 ml milk
  • 60 g Cheddar cheese
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper

Topping Ingredients

  • 125 ml fresh breadcrumbs
  • 30 g Cheddar cheese, extra
  • 15 g butter, extra (melted)

Instructions

Cooking Instructions

  • Cook cauliflower florets in boiling salted water until just tender. Drain.
  • Put butter in a pan and stir over medium heat until melted.
  • Add flour, stir until smooth. Add milk gradually, stir until smooth and sauce thickens and boils.
  • Remove from heat, add grated cheese, salt, and pepper. Stir until cheese melts.
  • Spread half of the cheese sauce over the base of an ovenproof dish. Arrange cauliflower on top of the sauce.
  • Spread remaining sauce over cauliflower.
  • Combine breadcrumbs with extra cheese and melted butter. Sprinkle crumb mixture on top of cauliflower.
  • Bake in a moderate oven (180°C) for 15-20 minutes, until golden.

Notes

Ensure the cauliflower is tender but not overcooked to maintain texture.
