  • 40 ml oil
  • 2 large onions sliced
  • 500 g beef cut into cubes (e.g., chuck or brisket)
  • 500 ml water
  • 400 g tomatoes diced
  • 40 ml tomato juice
  • 40 ml coriander chopped

Serving Suggestions

  • 1 cup rice cooked
  • 4 pieces popadoms
  • as needed chutney
  • as needed pickles

Instructions

Cooking Instructions

  • Heat oil in a large saucepan and add the sliced onions. Stir over medium heat for about 4 minutes or until onions are soft.
  • Stir in the beef and cook over high heat until the beef is well browned.
  • Stir in water, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer covered for about 2 hours or until the beef is tender.
  • Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato juice, and chopped coriander. Cook over medium heat for 2 minutes.
  • Serve the stew with cooked rice, popadoms, chutney, and pickles.
