Brandied Cherries, Blue Berries, Strawberries or Raspberries

Materials

  • 6 cups stoned cherries or topped and tailed other berry fruits (blueberries, strawberries, or raspberries)
  • 4 cups sugar
  • 2 cups brandy

Instructions

  • Prepare a large jar: Have a large, clean screw-top jar ready.
  • Layer ingredients: Place the brandy and 1 cup of sugar in the jar along with 1 cup of the prepared fruit. Stir gently.
  • Add remaining ingredients: Add the remaining sugar and fruit to the jar.
  • Mix and store: Move the contents of the jar around gently each day for the first few days to help the sugar dissolve. Let the mixture stand for 1-2 months in a cool, dark place to allow the flavors to develop.
  • Serve: This brandied fruit is described as “great over ice cream.”
